Hormone Balancing Smoothie

Feb 27, 2024 | Recipes, Natural Remedies, Womens Health, Hormone Health

Balancing our hormones is essential for maintaining overall health and well-being. Our hormones regulate numerous bodily functions, including metabolism, mood, reproductive health, sleep, and our immune system.

Many common health issues, including fatigue, weight gain or loss, mood swings, irregular menstrual cycles, infertility, and even increased risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease, can be attributed to hormonal imbalance.

Whenever I talk about hormones, I like to describe them as being like an orchestra. In an orchestra, if just one instrument is out of time or out of tune, the whole piece is effected. Likewise, when one hormone gets out of balance, it can impact whole endocrine system.

This smoothie is suitable for both men and women. The beauty of supporting your hormones with nutrition is that you are simply giving your body the building blocks it needs to do it’s work.

This is what I have been breaking my fast with over the last couple of weeks. It’s so good and sustains me all day.

Ingredients

1 cup ice

1/2 avocado

1/2 cup blueberries

2 tsps greens powder

1/4 cup coconut yoghurt

1 teaspoon maca powder

1 large scoop plant based protein powder

1 cup kale

1 tbsp chia seeds

1 tbsp flaxseed

Water added at the end to fill to the liquid line

Method

Simply place all ingredients in the blender (water last), blend and enjoy

Maca supports the function of the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, thus supporting the pituitary gland (the master gland) to produce the right amount of hormones and keep the other hormones in balance. It also nourishes the adrenals.

Kale supports healthy levels of estrogen and testosterone and aids hormone balance

Avocados help maintain a stable insulin balance and keep your energy levels steady

Blueberries help combat inflammation and oxidative stress, both of which can contribute to hormonal imbalances

Flaxseed can help regulate the menstrual cycle by balancing hormones and reducing inflammation. They can also improve fertility.

Chia seeds are rich in omega 3 fats which are needed by the body to make and balance hormones.

Plant based protein has been shown to suppress hunger, regulate thyroids hormones, regulate sleep and mood hormones, increase insulin sensitivity, reduce symptoms of PCOS and promote fertility.

I also add a greens powder which is full of not just greens, but also medicinal mushrooms and adaptogenic herbs.
